The lawyer sued Tencent “Honor of Kings” to disclose the game matching algorithm: the trial will be held on August 12

From Qingdao, Shandong Province, “King” with seven or eight years of game agegloryA veteran player and lawyer took two of Tencent’s companies (Shenzhen Tencent Computer Systems Co., Ltd. and Tencent Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd.) to court, and the high-profile “first case of China’s game algorithm litigation” will be heard in the Nanshan District People’s Court of Shenzhen on August 12.

It is understood that the lawyer found in the qualifying match that after winning a few games in a row, he would be matched with weaker teammates and strong opponents, winning and losing repeatedly, and the winning rate was close to 50%.

She doesn’t think she’s a top master, but she can play the “king” rank during the season, and the opacity of the matchable mechanism makes her feel deeply controlled by the algorithm and has strong doubts.

On June 18 last year, the lawyer applied for a case, and after 8 months and 246 days, he only received a notice of filing in February this year.

It is understood that in accordance with Article 8 of the Consumer Rights Protection Law, she believes that consumers have the right to know the true situation of goods or services.

As a “Honor of Kings” player, she has the right to know how to match teammates and opponents in the game, but there is no relevant information on the official website and other websites, so she filed a lawsuit with the court to protect the right to know.

She appealed to the court to order the second defendant to disclose the player matching mechanism of “Honor of Kings”, including the specific factors affecting the matching, as well as the proportion and weight of each factor in different game modes such as qualifying and peak matches.

The media said that previously, the “Honor of Kings” team made a special trip to Qingdao to communicate with her and answer many questions, but insisted that the game matching mechanism was a trade secret and could not be disclosed.

The lawyer said that there is no precedent for similar cases in the country, and although she hopes to win, she hopes that no matter what the outcome is, it can arouse the attention of lawmakers and practitioners to the issue of algorithm fairness in the gaming field, after all, the game industry is huge and algorithms affect countless players.
