GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games by players, and it may also be the game with the longest development cycle in the history of R Star. Recently, a former R-star developer revealed that the development of GTA6 can be traced back to 2018, shortly after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Former R-Star environmental art designer David O’Reilly was recently at Kiwi
Talkz said that he was involved in the development of the GTA6 project from 2018 until his departure in 2023, which lasted five years.
Reilly said that the R-Star development team adopts a highly confidential production model, and most members do not know the specific details of the game’s plot. He also only knows that the story revolves around the two protagonists, but the core plot is always kept strictly confidential.
Reilly’s main responsibility is to build various GTA6 scenarios, and he is sure that the parts he is responsible for may have been optimized and adjusted by other team members in the subsequent development phase.
GTA 6 was originally scheduled to be released in 2025, but R-Star ultimately decided to postpone the release date to May 26, 2026, to ensure that the quality of the game is at the level of Red Dead Redemption 2.
