Microsoft recently revealed that the Android version of its Edge browser has launched internal testing of the plugin feature, allowing users to install and use various plugins to improve the browsing experience. The feature is still in beta, with the first plugins available for Dark Reader, uBlock Origin, and Global Speed.
According to official Microsoft news, Android users can now easily access and use these plugins in the latest version of the Edge browser. Users only need to open the browser menu, select the “Extensions” option, and enter the dedicated page to browse the currently available plugins, and download and install them.
The three plugins launched this time have their own highlights, “Dark Reader” is an extension that provides dark mode for web pages, helping users browse the web more comfortably in dim environments; uBlock Origin is an efficient request blocker that loads and runs a large number of filtering rules to effectively block ads and other irrelevant content. “Global Speed” is a media playback control plug-in that allows users to customize audio and video playback speed, fast forward and rewind, and set markers.
As early as January this year, Microsoft added a flag to the Android version of Edge Canary, allowing users to turn on the extended support function of Edge for Android. Users only need to enter “edge://flags” in the Canary version address bar, search for and enable the option “#edge-extensions-android” to experience the plugin function in advance.
With the gradual opening of plug-in functions for closed beta, the functions of Microsoft Edge browser on the Android platform will become more and more perfect, providing users with a more personalized and efficient online experience.
