O’Hara, who played Joel’s psychiatrist Gale in the second season of HBO’s hit series The Last of Us, revealed in an interview with Variety magazine that the third season will focus on Abby’s story line.
While fans of The Last of Us episodes are still grappling with the reality of the death of Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel Miller, another major twist seems to be on the horizon.
While the TV series adapted from the popular game is extremely similar to the game’s setting, it didn’t make Joel’s departure come to terms with many fans well. What’s even more puzzling is that The Last of Us season 3 will shift the focus, a move that is bound to spark some controversy.
This is because this change will shift the focus to Abby, the killer who killed Joel, played by Caitlin Dever. Katherine O’Hara, who plays Joel’s psychiatrist Gale in the second season, revealed the news in an interview with Variety.
When asked by Variety if O’Hara would return for the next few seasons, she revealed a message that the third season was “Abby’s story.”
“I don’t know. Craig (the showrunner) did say that the next season definitely won’t. This is Abby’s story. Maybe. But I think it’s for Joel and Ellie. ”
While Abby was disappointed and therefore controversial after killing Joel, shifting the focus to her would result in an interesting storyline.
If this is the case, the third season focuses on Abby, which is in line with the plot development of the The Last of Us 2 game. The first half of the game focuses on Ellie’s three days in Seattle, before the plot suddenly switches and players need to replay the three days from Abby’s point of view.
This is a huge shock in the game, as Abby’s motives for killing Joel have not yet been revealed at the time, and this part is gradually revealed through her perspective.
Craig recently reportedly stated that a fourth season may be needed to tell the full story of the second game, which could mean that the entire third season of The Last of Us will focus on Abby’s journey. Production on The Last of Us season 3 has already begun, but it is uncertain if there will be a fourth season.
